Matthew Johnson

>===== Original Message From gameprogrammer@gameprogrammer.com =====
>Hi-
>My name is Matthew Johnson and I live in Kuwait. I am currently in the
>10th grade, and in my geometry class, we have been assigned a project to
>research an occupation that applies geometry. Being a video game addict,
>I immediately chose "video game programmer" as my topic. I came across
>your extremely informative website and was just wondering if it would be
>possible to answer some questions:
>
>
>
> How many years did you attend school to be able to master video game
>programming?
Still attending school but it is a never ending learning process.
>
>Is it really worth all of those hard years of college and schooling to
>be able to create a video game?
Yes, definitely, seeing a group of people come together and create
something out of nothing is truly inspiring.

>How long does it take to create a video game for an 128-bit system like
>the Sega Dreamcast?
Depending on the game but anywhere from a year to 4 years and that is
just an approximation.

>Is it worth these hours to make a video game from scrap?
Well that depends too, if you are trying to learn how something works
then yes it is worth it to make the video game from scratch. Sometimes it is
easier to use stuff that has already been created for you to allow more
concentration on other aspects of a video game
>
>Did high school geometry; that of parallel and perpendicular lines,
>rhombus’ and triangles, really help you to get where you are today?

Yes most definitely, Math just like anything else you encounter in school
builds upon itself and without a strong background in math it can make it
really hard to program games.
>
>Are there points in your career when you want to go and visit your high
>school geometry teacher and thank him/her?

Sure, why not. There are lots of people that deserve thanks for helping me
achieve my goals.
>
> Thank you very much for your time; it is highly appreciated.

>Sincerely,
>Matthew Johnson
