Do message crackers degrade performance?



Title: Do message crackers degrade performance?

I am currently starting to write a simple space invaders game using DX8.  I am considering putting message crackers (as defined in windowsx.h) in my MsgHandler function, so that this function does not get huge and I can break functionality off in separate functions.

Question:  Does anyone know if using message crackers would degrade system performance, especially for a game where performance is everything???
