Hi, Yeah, i like the ideas, i was using borland turbo 3.1, a little dated but satisfactory. unfortunatly i lent the cd to a mate and wiped the hard drived because windows buggered, everything was backed up the network at school but it may be a while until i can get it back because i cannot get on to the network for some reason. i tired borland compiler 5.5 but when trying to run it it did not work and sugggested lots of command line arguments. Yes of course, everyone has something to contribute with. To get the ball starting to roll i think we all need to agree what kind of game we shall make. If i can put the firrst word in this matters i should say something simpel at start. A game that basically teaches us to put up a graphic window, make something moving on it (old times sprites or bobs, don't know what thay are called when programmed with DX). What would you say about a simpel space invader game. I know it is a lame game consept, but it is for learning only. We should need a website where code, graphics and sound to the game wa are developing can be found. And it shoul be hosted on a site without a banner, i hate sites like angelfire. What we need in the start is some basic code. So i am gonna ask you real programmers out there. A simpel code that put up a graphic screen, ready for multithreading and all that. we also need some simpel graphics to start with, and we shall agree on the size on them. I would say 32x32 with 16 or 256 colors. start without any animation on them. Straight and simpel, that is what we want. when we have a beta working, we could advance the code and make the ships animate, different types of ammo, stunning soundeffects and a bedazzling music. But all that in due time. First a simpel spaceinvader. What do you say ? How about a direct input, E-mail is also a slow medium. But also the best to keep records of what we say. And the compiler should be other than Microsoft compiler. I don't like microsoft very much, they have tied us to a singel OS with their DX. They could atleast help the linux community with a port so they also can game with our exellent game =) Here is a link to Bloodshed C++: http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-4003375-100-1683220.html?tag=st.dl.1000 1-103-1.lst-7-1.1683220 and to borland compiler 5.5 : http://www.borland.com/bcppbuilder/freecompiler/ with their patch: http://www.borland.com/devsupport/bcppbuilder/patches/bcc55/bcc55sp1.zip http://www.borland.com/devsupport/bcppbuilder/patches/bcc55/bcc55sp2.exe There is some IDE you can download as well to the Borland compiler, make your life much easier (in most cases). Ok, i need you to reflect om what i have written now. Communication works best if it goes in two ways. /Harri Hynynen ====================== The GameProgrammer.Com mailing list is for the open discussion of any topic related to the art, science, and business of programming games.
