I almost did that! They say that the program is so intense, that a huge percentage of the people have to see a psychiatrist to cope with it. The reason why they will give you so much to start is because they know that you could be making almost 100K plus if you weren't in the navy, so after the 6 years they make you enlist, they will give you like a HUGE bonus (30 - 50K) to stay with them. The problem with that is, unless you are an officer, life in the navy sucks royaly. I had a friend who went in, acted crazy, then was let go. Don't do it! :) Unless you have nothing else going for you, otherwise, it's a great way to get a good education.
