Networking

Hey network buffs, i need your advice.
I want to learn how to network and I am wondering.... should I first learn
how to network with generall
windows api's?  Or should I just try DirectPlay first?

If so, where can I get some good source or information, maybe even a
tutorial If im lucky?

Basically, what is a good site for learning to networking? :)
