If you are a beginner in programming, I don't think Tetris is your best bet. ALSO, DirectX or any other API might be a bad move too,... you should really learn the basics. I know, you have probably heard that a lot, but there is reasons for it. I had been programming for a few years before I tackled DirectX and it still was a confusing mess. Have you tried something simple like hangman? :) Once again, it all depends on how much a beginner you are. Have you done any graphics?
