It's faster with the 2d crap, but OpenGL's not that much slower than
it... and faster in the 3d stuff (IMHO). I personally like DirectDraw, but
prefer OpenGL over Direct3D, but either one will work. DirectDraw, however,
does give you some nice advantages, mostly direct access to the video
memory. If you like that, go for it, but OpenGL will probably work...and
you won't have to learn much else for the 3d stuff.
