Hey!! OpenGL is an awesome API and I prefer it over Direct3D for three reasons. First, ITs a lot easier to get started with OpenGL than with Direct3D. You can have a 3D application up and running in about a half a day. Direct3D requires a LOT of initialization before you get a single triangle on the screen. Second, its available on almost all platforms. Heck, even Nintendo64's API is based on OpenGL. And third, its perfect if you want to do things like inverse kinematics. But I have to be fair and say that Direct3D is a very powerfull API and if you dont mind all the initializing you have to do to get it to work you should definetly give it a try.
